We are inviting scholars and students in Hebrew studies and in related fields to submit an at most 1-page-long abstract for the Hungarian Hebrew Studies Conference. You are kindly asked to make use of this web form by the deadline, which is 18 December 22 December 2022. Please consider the following when preparing your abstract.

The topic of a presentation may cover any subfield of Hebrew studies, including among others: the Hebrew Bible and its historical, archaeological, cultural and religious context, the Hellenistic and Roman period, Qumran and early Judaism, rabbinical and medieval Jewish literature, Jewish history, social history, cultural history, history of religion, and so forth. Welcome are works employing historical, social scientific, philosophical, ethnographic and anthropological, literary, linguistic and translations studies methodologies, as well. However, theological discussions related to any particular confession, independently of their scholarly worth, fall outside the scope of the Hungarian Hebrew Studies Conference.

Online lectures are more exhausting to follow than offline lectures. Therefore, this year speakers will only have 25 minutes at their disposal, consisting of 15 minutes for their presentation, 6-8 minutes for discussion, and another 2-4 minutes for technical issues. The language of the talks can be either Hungarian or English. We expect the presentation of new results, either unpublished, or recently published, but unknown to the broader audience.

Two forms of submission are available:

  • Regular abstract: anonymous submission by students and scholars who are not members of the Hungarian Hebrew Studies Society, but also by members. These abstracts undergo regular double-blind peer review, in order to ensure the quality of the conference.
  • Student abstract: undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students are eligible to submit a student abstract. These submissions will enter the regular program, if they are of comparable quality. Further promising papers will be presented in a special dedicated student session (with possibly a shorter period of time assigned).

Submissions of at most 1-page-long anonymous abstracts in pdf format are welcome via the web form until the deadline, 18 December 22 December 2022.
