IntroductionThe Hungarian Hebrew Studies Conference is the one-day-long yearly conference of the Hungarian Hebrew Studies Society, to be organized this time by the Department of Assyriology and Hebrew Studies of the ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary, on 8 February 2018. Following the tradition established by the József Schweitzer Memorial Conference at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on the 27 January 2016, and the Schweitzer-lectures at the Faculty of Theology of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary on the 14 February 2017, it commemorates the founding president of our Society, Prof dr. József Schweitzer (1922–2015), former Chief Rabbi of Hungary and director of the Rabbinical Seminary. The Hungarian Hebrew Studies Conference has set a twofold goal. First, it provides a forum where members of the Hungarian Hebrew Studies Society, and in general, scholars of Hebrew Studies in Hungary and abroad can encounter each other, reflect upon each other’s research, and build scholarly networks. Second, we also aim at enhancing the communication between Hebrew studies and related disciplines. Therefore, this year’s conference puts a special emphasis on interdisciplinary discourse, that is, on encouraging the participation of scholars working on related disciplines, including social history, literary history, linguistics, religious studies and anthropology among others. Their work may bear relevance to Hebrew studies, Jewish studies and Biblical studies, and they may also benefit from an encounter with the Hebrew studies scholarly community. We especially welcome the participation of scholars from abroad, and so we also accept presentations in English. The abstract submission deadline this year is We are looking forward to the participation of our colleagues. We are also soliciting their help in encouraging their undergraduate, graduate and doctorate students to present a talk or a poster at the Hungarian Hebrew Studies Conference.
